From what I understood, the article goes into the effects evolving media physically and in media have changes us as humans. We've acquired new sets of skills due to the evolution of our new technology. These skill sets are categorized under VL also known as visual literacy. They allow us to connect communicate with others as well as understanding and effectively using images. This comes in handy with all types of media. Physical media like print needs a lot skills to learn and produce more media. It also requires a specific type of vocabulary people in the field communicate effectively with. You also need to understand what you're doing. This can be applied further towards digital media as its an entire new setting itself. It needs a new set of tools and you need to be capable of learning said tools. Quick learning is a strength with the rapid evolvement in current media. Communication through this new media can be shown through placement of visuals, language, emotion, and more. It's not like it will slow down anytime soon. With the use of AI we once again need to adapt and learn a new language and toolset to communicate with the world. While we know previous skills, new skills that come with the use of robots and machinery will be added to what VL is. Overall it really does connect back towards communicating effectively with peers. It's about getting your point across with the machinery and tools you have. We won't ever be backtracking so acknowledging this is the direction society is going in and learning the new tools in VL is something we need to accept.
